Simpson Associates got its start in the summer of 1984, in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), as a small consulting firm specializing in retained executive search. The primary client focus was small to medium-sized, privately held companies that encompassed a diverse industry group.
Very early in the practice, psychometric assessment capability was introduced into the firm. It was rather obvious, even back in the 1980’s, that client companies were working hard to improve their businesses. And if it was good enough for our clients to be diligently working on development and improvement, it was equally good enough for us. To that end, as mentioned, we introduced an advanced and sophisticated assessment capability to the search practice. It was a demonstrable way to move the practice forward. And our customers responded! And they responded with a resounding endorsement. So much so that soon we found ourselves being asked to provide stand-alone assessment services in addition to our search endeavours. Ultimately, and interestingly, what was first thought might well be exclusively a value-added adjunct, turned out to be a profit-center all of its own. And unbundled executive and management assessment has remained central to the company’s operations right to the present.
After more than twenty years in the Toronto Region, a decision was made to move the company to Vancouver. While the intervening geography was, obviously rather vast, the move, was a relatively easy transition. It had always been the intent to have the firm remain small and agile – frankly, providing very exclusive, custom and cutting-edge services to a first-rate group of clients dictated such – so the move incurred very little disruption. It was a good decision. For the last ten years, our firm has continued to thrive and has made on-going additions to our exceptional group of clients
As a consulting group that has continued on its thirty plus years of evolution, we recently had the opportunity to purchase Enhanced Performance Systems, formerly a California-based company that specializes in publishing psychological tests – in fact, the very ones we use at Simpson Associates. This was an important acquisition for the firm – one that will allow continued development and increased utility of the state-of-the-art psychological tools that have become a hallmark of our practice.
It is not without some irony that we have recently elected to open a regional office in the GTA. The Toronto office is an important development in the evolution of this firm, one that is a cornerstone to an ever-increasing demand for our search services across North America, Europe and beyond. To this end, we welcomed Ms. Carolyn Kschischang to the group as Director of Search Services in October of 2015.
Plans for a Phoenix office are also on the “drawing board, as is a location in the U.K. We have been critically sculpting this growth in order to ensure that our select search and appraisal services remain at the pinnacle of the industry.
Now, after more than thirty years in business, our consulting group remains committed to the fundamentals that we established all those years ago. Those core tenants include:
* working with an exceptional and limited group of clients
* continuing to provide specialized and high-level services to CEO’s and Board members
* a commitment to never publish our customer list in any public domain
* an undertaking not to accept competitors in our client base
* Simpson Associates is dedicated to continuing on its path of providing exceptional service to exceptional clients and look forward to doing so for many more years to come.
